"This is CNN"

It was the night before my campaign launch.  The next morning hundreds of Internet promoters were set to announce the release of my new book. 

"Top Stories tonight" the voice of Chuck Roberts carried on in the background as I went over the following days events in my mind.

"Ohhhhhh s***!"my head snapped back and I yelled.  I sat there stunned for a few minutes feeling weightless, helpless, totally in shock.

Maybe Eminem described this feeling of impending failure best in the punchy song "Lose Yourself":

The clocks run out, time's up over - blough! 

Snap back to reality, Oh there goes gravity 

... and there gravity went.

How could I possibly compete with a book being plugged every 30 minutes on CNN written by "The Mayor of the World"?

Worse, how could I stop the campaign I had set up for the next day?  Everything was set in motion.

Once the shock wore off, I just laughed.

I shook my head and said, "F*** it.  Let's do this thing."

The next morning we launched the campaign and we made #2 by the end of the night.  The next morning, 24 hours later, we were still at #2.

I missed my goal.

We pressed on.  Most of my staff went out to go see the stage production of "The Lion King,"but I burned my ticket and stayed back at the office.  A few of us pushed hard, getting more people to promote the book for us, sending out follow up campaigns, not giving up·
